Director Statement
I’ve been an artist, in some form, all my life. I was lucky enough to have the support of my parents in this, because they are both musicians and singers, in addition to their other pursuits. I’ve also taught music, voice, theatre and acting to many people across the world.
Bye-Bye, Sing Sing is a drama film that is just shy of 20 minutes in length. It follows the story of Eliza, a timid music teacher in New York City, whose real intention is to become a professional musician and singer-songwriter. Inspired by the radical advice of an enigmatic online guru, Eliza embraces her alter ego, Belladonna, transforming her appearance and identity despite fierce resistance from her practical, risk-averse husband, Fredrick. Armed with this new personality, she has the power to succeed no matter what is standing in her way. With the Spiritual help of her late father, she fashions herself into a successful rock singer who fills venues and eventually wins back the respect of the person closest to her.
We wanted to make a film about an artist who finds her way through the usual maze of social resistance by adopting an unstoppable personality. It is my desire that our audience feels the ups and downs of the lead female’s battle with the opposition, and learns from her perseverance in the face of negativity.
Also, I want to inspire the world to look at life in terms of its artistic possibilities, and to paint a picture to tell people that the only real resistance to their success is in their own heads. If you can change your mind, you can change the world.
What makes this film unique is its combination of drama and music. It is also metaphorically biographical of our lead female actress’s creative struggle (Yekaterina Molostova). It’s a clarion call to all artists to follow their dreams in the face of stiff opposition.
About the Director
Peter Valentino has been a writer and filmmaker for many years. Originally from the LA area, Peter has traveled widely around the world as a musician and as an actor.
Peter morphed into being a Director from having been a professional musician, actor and theater owner. Now, he likes to shoot in various countries and therefore, his films have an
international feel to them. As an actor, he has done theater, musical theater, live improv, shorts and feature films. As a musician, Peter does all the music for his films—soundtrack and songs.
Peter is currently involved in writing a novel, which will become the basis of his next feature film. His favorite genre is fantasy, or anything containing magic. Peter holds a great respect for and connection to the imagination.
