Trouble starts brewing when the demon Crowley is proposed to by his superhero girlfriend Skadi. He is faced with the impossible task of introducing his environmental activist fiancé to his global-warming-causing Parents and invites Skadi over for dinner. Things take a turn when Skadi reveals that her feelings for Crowley were nothing but a ruse to infiltrate their living room and kill them all; a plan so evil that it makes Crowley‘s parents like her after all.
Director Statement
Desires and hopes take many forms. They might revolve around careers, the natural desire for love, or a mix of everything. We are often defined by the validation we seek. However, there is an absurd irony in all this. We often yearn for approval from those who understand us the least. Whether they’re our parents, siblings, or romantic partners, sometimes these people may seem supportive of our desires, but that support often fades when our dreams exceed their expectations.
In The Morningstars, I set out to explore this relatable, often absurd, form of conditional love. Crowley, a young demon living with his brash demon parents, resides in a closed-minded home that really feels more like a sitcom gone wrong. As he starts to seek his family’s blessing, Crowley comes to realise their love is more of a transaction and might depend on him embracing the thing he fears the most. Truly becoming a demon. Through the satirical lens, this film asks an important question: What is the cost of pursuing a life not designed by you?
About the Director.
Hailing from Glenview, Illinois, Matthew is a director, producer, and writer whose films have been screened internationally, earning accolades at festivals like the WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival and the Miami Independent Film Festival.
Currently, Matthew is juggling three short films in post-production while gearing up for his directorial debut feature film. He also serves as an Associate Producer for Justice Central TV at Byron Allen's Entertainment Studios.
A Syracuse University graduate (Class of 2021), Matthew refined his craft at the renowned Film and Television School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. His passion for storytelling and cinematic excellence drives everything he does, and we couldn't be more excited to have him leading this project!
